Board Candidate 2019

What's your name? Molly Kenney

Why is the Co-op important to you? South Philly is a wonderful place to call home, and the Co-op will make our community even more vibrant and connected. I grew up surrounded by farms and local, fresh food. As an adult in the city, I miss that easy access to fresh food, connection to the land, and ability to eat more sustainably. I am also conscious that fresh food access is essential to social equity. Co-ops like ours are critical to health, sustainability and food access. They connect neighbors to each other and to the region's growers and seasonal food. They are community hubs and community builders, and I am thrilled South Philly now has one.

When did you join, and (if applicable), how have you been involved? My partner, Josh, and I first learned about the Co-op outside Grindcore, and we immediately signed up as member-owners in November 2018.

How will your experience, skills, or unique perspectives strengthen the Co-op board? I am eager to be part of building the Co-op. I would bring my passion for public interest work, significant leadership and fundraising experience, and thoughtful involvement to the Board. I am a public interest attorney recently transitioned to the private sector, and I am committed to investing my time and resources in our community. In professional and pro bono capacities, I have planned fundraisers, coordinated volunteer efforts, and participated in strategic planning campaigns. Additionally, I am involved in Philadelphia Bar Foundation's Board Observer Program, a year-long program of non-voting nonprofit board involvement and training on board leadership.

It would be my privilege to serve on the Co-op's Board and contribute to making South Philly an even more wonderful, more connected, healthier place to call home.
