Vision & Mission

Mission:

To open a member-owned, cooperative grocery store that  makes good  food available at a fair price to all residents of South Philadelphia, while empowering the local community through sustainable practices, food-centric education, outreach, and community building.

Vision:

Become a Member-Owner Today! Join the friends and neighbors who are working together to open the South Philly Food Co-op! The Co-op will be much more than a food store; we will be a community-owned and controlled enterprise committed to serving our members and improving South Philadelphia. Our store will offer a complete grocery experience and be an inviting, welcoming space that is accessible, well-stocked, and friendly. Our helpful staff and volunteers will have the common values of integrity, respect, and responsibility.

Partnerships With Local Businesses We are interested in partnering with locally owned businesses in the neighborhood. It is through these essential connections that we hope to build a successful and sustainable future in our community. Our Shop South Philly Program offers special discounts to Co-op members.  In turn, we encourage our supporters and members to patronize these local businesses.

Food Choices You Can Feel Good About South Philadelphia has a rich history centered on food.  The Co-op’s role is to weave together relationships among neighbors, farmers, and local food producers. We will carry sustainable, local and ethical food choices you can feel good about. Consider us an extension of your home pantry.

Building Community Community is at the center of everything we do.  We envision the Co-op being a vibrant community hub, connecting the residents of South Philadelphia to their neighbors and larger community. Our goal is to grow with the community over time, embracing the diversity of the neighborhood and fostering stronger ties among the different social and ethnic groups in South Philly.
